Week 6 Hue Control

Hue Lamp

For this Hue control project, I think it’s a great chance for me to pick up my unfinished 3D lampshade printing project. I tried to create a corrugated layer structure to diffuse the light, and the original model with a curved exterior kept failing in the middle during the 3D printing, so I did a new one with no exterior curve and it seems better with my 3D printer.

And I dropped it on the floor, it break into pieces! I had to glue them back together and use the heat gun to reshape it a little bit. PLA heatup pretty fast and shrink a little bit, it can get really soft after heat up. It is really reasy to reshape the model with hand.

For the hue control, after connecting to the hue bulb , I tried Tom’s rotary encoder code and added a additional toggle switch to control the on/off state.

And I am still doing the lampshade tests at home by changing the wall thickness and the printing setting. I am planning to change to PETG to see if there is any difference in the quality of the lampshade. Probably gonna have more updates.

Lamp Inspiration

This is a pendant shade I saw in Rule of Thirds, a restaurant in Brooklyn. The construction is really simple but diffuses the light really well in real life.

Also some light I saw in the DOBRINKA SALZMAN GALLERY. The light structure and the diffuser material is really fun to look at.
