Week 5-7: CNC Side Table

For the CNC project, I’m thinking of making a small flat pack CNC side table to replace my current one.

I made a laser-cut scaled model to test out the geometry and joinery.

I am planning to separate the leg into a few pieces and join them with joinery to save some materials. For the circle, I gave it a 0.005” tolerance, and for the rest without any tolerance. There is a small gap that does not fit perfectly. I am planning to do another test with a pocket cut with an outline bigger than the original bounding box, so it will not leave a curve on a straight edge.

The first canvas on the left is 16*24 horizontal, and I lay out the cut horizontally and leave about 2” on two sides. But unfortunately, when I start milling, it said “Xsoft Limit”. On the second try, the machine start going wild not as it was supposed to. Tolerance: 0.005” now, haven’t actually tested it.
