Pcomp - week4 - Pianola

Project 1 - Pianola

For the first project, my teammate Meijie and I are thinking of creating a piece of an instrument using photosensors. And our thought is to create a music box, and feed in with card with colored blocks. The sensor can detect the light change and play tone when there is a colored block go through.

The initial idea was deriviated from the play tone lab in week3, instead of using forcing sensor, we decide to feed the sensor with light.

The finished circuit. We added an audio amplifier to make the speaker a bit louder. And we stick our Arduino board at the bottom of the breadboard to save some space in order to put it into the box.

The first test before fully assemble them together. I laser cut the entire case and create two slots for the speaker and holes for the photosensors. In order to avoid light bouncing around in the box, I painted the interior of the box black and make the hole just able to fit the photosensor in.

Then problem happened when we put the photosensor in the dark box, also might be because of the connection issues, the music box is not working properly as in the previous tests before assembly.

And sometime it work when lifting the lid up a little bit.

Here is a quite(?) successful test of me trying to feed the music box with the ‘melody sheet’.
