Week 10-13 Corner Light Projects and Updates
Final Light Ideas
For our final project, Martin and I have chosen to design an innovative lamp that addresses the common issue of corner spaces in urban apartments. Recognizing that most city dwellings feature 90-degree inside or outside corners, we've been inspired to create a lamp specifically designed to complement and enhance these often underutilized areas. Both of us are intrigued by the idea of crafting a visually striking 2D-style light.
My concept involves reimagining the traditional form of a lamp by capturing its silhouette and adapting it to fit a corner, resulting in a versatile 90-degree or 270-degree wall lamp. Alternatively, this inventive design could also be transformed into a 90-degree table lamp to suit different interior spaces.
Updates: print out a 1:1 scale test wall light version - 9 inches (ran out of filament in the middle of the print), and plan to print a 1:1 scale table lamp - 18-inch version.
This week I modeled the lampshade v2
Added another bulb, so there are two corn bulbs pointing up and down
Added a slot on the shade so I can stick paper/cut-out shapes into the slot
Did a lumen test for the brightness.
Around the light: 150 lux (light off) - 2500 lux (full brightness)
Under the shade: 25 lux (light off) - 7300 lux (full brightness)

Martin's idea, on the other hand, is to develop a discreet 2D lamp that remains hidden when not in use. To achieve this effect, he plans to utilize color-changing paint, allowing the lamp to seamlessly blend into its surroundings until it's switched on, revealing its captivating presence.
